British TV viewers will have a choice of tuning into holiday messages from two very different women on Christmas Day.

Queen Elizabeth II will give her traditional address to the people on the BBC. At the same time, commercial broadcaster Channel 4 will air a message from Sharon Osbourne, wife of rock star Ozzy and TV star thanks to MTV's docu-sitcom "The Osbournes."

Channel 4 has for a number of years aired an alternative Christmas address opposite the queen's, according to the AP. Among those who have delivered it recently are Jesse Jackson, Brigitte Bardot and Quentin Crisp. A survivor of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center gave the message last year.

Osbourne was chosen because she "connects with our viewers in a way that the queen can't," a Channel 4 spokeswoman says. "She is a real person who leads an extraordinary life."

Osbourne, who is going through treatment for colon cancer, and her husband met the queen earlier this year when Ozzy performed at a concert marking the 50th anniversary of the queen's ascendence to the throne.
